5 Youtube Channel Ideas to Make Money

youtube channel ideas to make money

Let’s face it: one of the reasons we want to make YouTube videos is to make some money from it.

No one wants to work for free.

And it’s GOOD to start thinking about the money even before starting.

I’ll tell you why:

If you start on YouTube without any plan, you might end up with a big channel in a niche that is not easy to monetize (gaming is a good example of this).

You might end up spending a lot of time and effort building something that wasn’t a good business idea from the start.

So if you want to start on YouTube because you wanna live from it someday, it’s a good idea to choose something that you can start monetizing fast.

That’s why I wrote this article with the best YouTube channel ideas to make money.

What You Need to Start Making Money

Even if you start a channel in a highly profitable niche (like the ones I’ll show you below), you still NEED an audience before you can make good money.

You gotta work for free for a while before you start getting followers that watch your content frequently.

If you haven’t started yet, don’t expect to start earning a lot of money anytime soon.

You need to start grinding for a while, and you’ll reap the benefits later on.

So don’t read this if you’re hoping for a “Get Rich Formula”.

This is about hard work, strategy, and planning.

If you’re ready to work and wanna get some profitable ideas, here are some ideas to make money on YouTube:

Make Videos in Niches That Offer High CPM

CPM means cost-per-mille, which is the amount of money that you’ll earn per thousand ad views on your videos.

But before being able to earn money from the ads shown in your videos, you need to get to 1,000 subs and 4,000 watch hours in the last 12 months.

After that, you can start displaying ads on your videos.

The higher the CPM, the more money you’ll earn from those ads.

The easiest way to make good money on YouTube is to choose a profitable niche that offers high CPMs right from the start.

As we learned in another article, niches with high CPM are mostly related to highly profitable markets.

Read this other article for a more complete list of highly profitable niches.

If you start a channel in one of these niches, you’ll earn a lot more from each view than if you were starting a gaming channel, for example.

Also, making videos in English or another language from a first world country, you will earn you a higher CPM than using other languages.

However, before you start creating videos about something just because it might be profitable, make sure that you actually LOVE the subject.

You’ll need to record hundreds of videos nonetheless. So you better like the subject… a lot.

Don’t choose something “just because” it offers high CPMs.

The fact is that you can start a channel in “low CPM” niches and still earn a LOT of money faster than a high CPM niche.

You only need to use one of the following methods:

Monetize With Affiliate Marketing

Affiliate marketing is when you use a special link to a product, and if people buy it after clicking on your link, you’ll get a percentage of the sale.

The most famous affiliate program is the Amazon Associates Program.

After joining, you’ll get a special tracking link. You can then start inserting them on your video description:

If people buy something from Amazon after clicking on your link, you can earn 2%-8% on ANY purchase that they make, not only on the product that you linked.

That’s why this is one of the most popular affiliate programs.

Everybody buys on Amazon nowadays, so if you get people to Amazon, they will take care of selling something for you.

You’ll just collect your money 2 months later.

But Amazon’s is not the only affiliate program out there.

Almost every online business has one.

Some businesses even offer 40% of recurrent commission for monthly services, like ConvertKit and Clickfunnels.

Review products.

To increase the number of affiliate sales you get, you can review products.

When doing so, try your best to give an unbias review.

Do NOT try to convince people to buy the product just so you can get a commission.

Instead, be transparent about the good and the bad things.

This way you won’t sound like a desperate salesman, and you’ll actually get more sales and more trust this way.

Only recommend products that you truly believe in.

So just record a fair review, and use your affiliate link on the video description.

Another option is linking to the equipment and tools that you use for your videos.

For example, Tubebuddy and VidIq, which are tools that every YouTube channel should be using.

Linking to the camera that you use, your lighting, software or any other tool will earn you a lot of affiliate sales in the long run.

Create your own merch

Creating your own merch is easier than you think.

You can hire a designer on a place like Upwork and have them design something cool for you that you think your audience might like.

Then, go to a website like Printful, where you can get your logos printed on T-shirts.

Basically, everything is handled by them: printing, storing, payment processing, shipping, and even refunds.

You just have to promote and answer emails from your customers.

However, for this kind of monetization to work, you need a huge audience that has a deep connection with you.

Don’t bother too much with this unless you’re popular because you don’t get good margins from each sale.

If you’re planning to start a profitable youtube channel, creating your own merch shouldn’t be your main monetization method.

If you REALLY wanna build a business using youtube, then read the following method.E

Sell Your Own Digital Products or Services

This is my favorite one.

It’s the most efficient way of making money fast and scaling your business.

Creating digital products isn’t too difficult and it’s a great way to help your audience solve a problem.

Here are some of the common products and services you can offer:

Online Courses

Your knowledge can be extremely valuable to a lot of people.

If you can transfer it into an organized online course that lasts a few weeks, people could be willing to pay a lot for it.

After all, we value education — just look at the amount of student debt we have right now.

You can use your smartphone and record a series of videos and pack it together into an online course.

Use an online course host like the one we use (Teachable), and they’ll handle all the payments, refunds and student enrollments for you.

Online courses can go from $50 to $2,500+ (depending on the kind of problem that it fixes and the market you’re in).

It’s also really easy to scale because you just record it once and you can keep selling it for years. You’ll just have to answer questions and emails from your students.

You can add bonuses to your courses like Q&A livestreams to answer your students’ questions.

They will appreciate this kind of exclusivity for joining your course and it will also allow you to increase the price of your product.

Coaching

You can charge even more for 1-on-1 coaching.

A lot of people like to start with coaching.

Then, after some time, they put all the content you typically teach in a coaching call into an online course that is more scalable.

However, coaching is a way of making money faster because you don’t need to build anything first.

You can jump on a call with your client and start earning money right away.

But don’t get ahead of yourself.

Before spending an entire month or more building an online course, you should have a specific audience with a specific problem they’d be willing to pay for to get fixed.

You should build an audience first, and then ask them what their main struggles are.

Then, you can experiment with coaching and see if people are actually willing to pay for your help.

Once you’re SURE that people want to pay for your information, you can start building a nice online course without fearing that no one is going to buy.

Your Next Step

The BEST way to start a profitable channel is to either start in a profitable niche with high CPM, or start an online business selling online products and services.

With the latter, you don’t even need a huge audience to make good money.

You just need to attract the right people that have a problem you can help solve.

You can start by creating helpful videos that will attract your target audience.

Then, send people to an opt-in page where you can get their emails.

Finally, close the sale after sending them emails for a while presenting your offer and convincing them why it’s a good decision.

To learn how to do all this process, and if you’re willing to work and aren’t looking for a “magic pill” that will make everything super easy (something like that doesn’t exist, sorry my friend), join my email list below.

It’s needless to say that no matter what method you choose, you still need to be CONSISTENT and work really hard to build a relationship with your audience.

The question is… Are you willing to do it?
